GEFERAN | International Advisory Board

The EMERGENCE project is supported by a distinguished international advisory board, our GEFERAN [= Gathering of Experts for Feedback, Encouragement and Reflection / Advisory Network]. These are scholars working in the fields of Old English Studies, the Reception of Old English Language and Literature and/or History of the Humanities, with an interest in the EMERGENCE project. We regularly (once or twice a year) their your input and feedback on elements of the project's bibliographical and relational database (e.g., its scope, data model, categories and usage features) and other outputs of the project (e.g. in the form of peer reviewing publications of the project). They are sent a status report of the project twice a year and are invited to attend or contribute to project activities (e.g., conferences and online lecture series). We may also ask their help to provide access to (or take photographs of) materials in local archives and/or libraries.

Opportunities for Students

We welcome motivated students to get involved with the EMERGENCE project through:

  • The P.J. Cosijn Research Fellowship (limited number of student-assistantships for Leiden University students)
  • Participating in hackathons and workshops
  • Writing theses related to the project
  • Helping us find digitized versions of publications in online repositories
  • Transcribing and summarizing scholarly correspondence on a voluntary basis

Calls for Collaboration

We warmly welcome contributions from scholars worldwide who work on Old English studies in the 19th century. You can help us by:

  • Writing short biographies (c. 1000 words) of 19th-century scholars of Old English, to be published in our database
  • Supplying us with images and metadata of relevant archival materials (esp. scholarly correspondence)
  • Transcribing and summarizing scholarly correspondence on a voluntary basis
